The archive of An Comunn Gàidhealach, consisting of minutes, financial records, commemorative volumes and scrapbooks, and a miscellany of music and prose. Most of the contents of the archive date from the foundation of An Comunn Gàidhealach in 1891 to the 1970s, with a few sections dating from more recent times.

Scope and Contents The Democracy for Scotland campaign began after the Scottish referendum held in 1979 failed to achieve the number of votes required to give Scotland devolved powers. The campaign began in 1992 and went on until a further referendum was held in Scotland in 1997. The campaign was based around a vigil which was erected in Edinburgh’s Calton Hill across the road from the Scottish office. The vigil was manned by strong supporters of Scottish independence. Scope and Contents The Edinburgh Skating Club was clearly well-established in 1784 when the first minute book starts. Apart from a few years of inactivity the Club flourished until the early 1900's when combined figure-skating declined in popularity. It was finally dissolved in 1966. Although the Club attracted a large proportion of its members from the legal profession, the Edinburgh Skating Club was not socially exclusive and the membership lists include local noblemen, merchants, army offers and a slater....

Scope and Contents

As well as teaching in a number or local schools, mostly in the parish of Glenmuick, Rule taught book-keeping, navigation and arithmetic to private pupils. His notebook includes accounts, lists of books, minutes of visits to the schools by the committee of the presbytery, and reflections on the events of the year. These last are mostly of a religious nature, but he mentions his own and his children`s affairs and (folio 48) the political events of 1745.
